Manchester United could pursue one of Mikel Arteta's long-term targets this summer

Manchester United could pull off a transfer Arsenal were desperate to complete three years ago by signing Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus this summer.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Turin-based club amid ongoing uncertainty over his contract situation. While he remains under contract until 2026, Juventus may look to offload him if a new deal isn’t agreed, in order to avoid losing him for nothing in 12 months' time.
Juventus are already being linked with potential replacements for Vlahovic. Italian outlet Di Marzio has named Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson as a possible target, while Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez has also been speculated in recent weeks. The arrival of a new forward at the Allianz Stadium could pave the way for Vlahovic’s departure, even if his personal preference is to leave as a free agent in 2026.
Vlahovic’s situation has understandably put several clubs on high alert, with rumours suggesting United may be among them. Ruben Amorim appears determined to revamp his entire forward line this summer, with Matheus Cunha already through the door, discussions are ongoing for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and continued links to other striker targets.
If United can get a deal for Vlahovic over the line, it would no doubt rub salt in the wounds of one of their Premier League rivals, who were determined to sign the striker three years ago before he joined Juventus. Reports in 2022 claimed Arsenal had made Vlahovic a priority target for the January window as he looked set to leave Fiorentina, but he instead chose to remain in Serie A and joined Juventus.
Vlahovic told The Telegraph in June 2022: "Maybe my agent knows but I never talked to anyone about it. I just had one club in my mind because Juventus is Juventus. There is nothing else to say."
The Gunners have continued to be linked with Vlahovic in the years following his big-money move, including this summer as they step up their striker search. However, if reports are accurate, Arsenal appear to be prioritising younger talents, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
