Paul Pogba called Man Utd youngster ‘the best of his generation’ - he’s now in Dubai’s…

If you ask Manchester United fans which player has disappointed them the most over the last twenty years, there’s a good chance Paul Pogba would be high on the list. The World Cup winner honed his craft in United’s youth teams before departing on a free transfer to Juventus, only to return for a club-record fee in 2016.

The hype around ‘Pogback’ was unlike anything seen at the time, and the Old Trafford faithful genuinely believed they had the key to reclaiming English and European dominance. However, inconsistent form, managerial fallouts, and persistent injuries meant that by the time Pogba left the club - again on a free, to rejoin Juventus in 2022 - his second spell could only be considered an unmitigated disaster.

Yet, perhaps United fans should be even more disappointed in one of his former teammates, whom the Frenchman once described as the “best of his generation” - despite the fact that he currently plays in the third tier of Dubai.

Paul Pogba Claimed Ravel Morrison Was the 'Best of His Generation'

The former Manchester United youngster was tipped to become a superstar

The downfall of Ravel Morrison is one that has been reiterated countless times. The former Manchester United youngster ws tipped for greatness by Sir Alex Ferguson, but ended up becoming one of the most wasted talents in football history.

Pogba was part of the same youth team class as Morrison at Old Trafford, and spoke incredibly highly of the playmaker in an interview with the Daily Mail in 2024.

"Let me tell you, Ravel is the best player of my generation that I have seen. No doubt. I saw stuff Neymar was doing at Santos - Ravel was doing that. Here’s a funny story - I never told anyone this before,’ Pogba starts. ‘So I arrived from France and Rav is already the biggest star. He was the boss.

"We were training just a few weeks after I arrived but I played tough. I took the ball from him. Rav was making a fool of everyone with his dribbling because he is so good, so I took the ball off him strongly and played. Then he kicked me, I turned round and didn’t say anything.

"We play again. I smash him and we start to argue. We are head-to-head - so I say “let’s go to the changing room I’m ready”. In Paris this is normal! So we got to the dressing room and I’m getting ready. But he just comes over and shakes my hand. Since that day he has been my guy. We are still talking."

After failing to make the grade at United, Ravel Morrison endured a string of underwhelming spells with clubs including West Ham, Lazio, Sheffield United, and Derby. Now 32, he finds himself playing for Precision FC, a side currently competing in the third tier of the UAE. Morrison joined the club in 2024 - the same summer former Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter also signed.

Records of his game time are scarce, but since making the move, Morrison has continued to represent Jamaica at senior international level, last appearing for the ‘Reggae Boyz’ in June 2025. Despite representing England at youth level - where he infamously got into a fight with Wilfried Zaha - Morrison has earned 20 senior caps for Steve McClaren's side.
