When Mason Mount joined Manchester United in 2023, the hope was that the midfielder would be able to be as successful as he was at Chelsea – where he won the Champions League in 2021.
However, since his arrival at Old Trafford, injuries and bad fortune have meant that the former English international has been able to make the same impact as he had at Chelsea.
Furthermore, with the 26 year old now at a crucial stage of his career and with him only making 17 appearances in the Premier League this season, a move away from Old Trafford may be best both in helping Mount gain more playing time and helping him regain the confidence that he has lost since arriving at United.
Now, it has emerged that Aston Villa – who Marcus Rashford went on loan to earlier this year – are looking to accelerate a move to sign Mount according to a report by former Manchester United scout Mick Brown.
Villa, who finished 6th in the Premier League last season, are looking to strengthen their midfield and attacking bases following the departures of loan signings Marcio Asensio and Marcus Rashford.
If Villa were to sign Mount, they would be getting an experienced midfielder who has partnered with success before although is currently lacking the confidence and skill required to reach the levels of his past.
Furthermore, Villa would be adding even more depth to their side whilst United would free up both more room and more fees for the signings they are wanting to achieve this summer such as Bryan Mbeumo and Emi Martinez.
Therefore, a move to the Midlands side may present the opportunity for the Englishman to regain his confidence and develop into an even better midfielder than he was previously whilst also making sense for both sides.
Do you think Mount would succeed if he went to Aston Villa or would he continue the struggles of United?
