Barcelona are making plans to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club but won’t pay his release clause for a little while yet.
The Catalans have already agreed personal terms with the Spain star on a contract that runs until 2031.
According to La Vanguardia, Barcelona will not pay his release clause until they have assurances from La Liga that they can register him and Dani Olmo.
The report states “payment will not be made before July 1, when the transfer window opens.”
Both club and player will then be hoping things can move quickly. Athletic Club are due to return to pre-season a few days before Barcelona, and Williams does not want to have to go back to his parent club.
The Catalans are due to return on July 13, before heading out to Asia for a pre-season tour, and the hope is that Williams will be showing up on the first day back.
