Joao Pedro inspecting the pitch before a Premier League match
Joao Pedro is a man in demand during this summer transfer window
The summer transfer window has been open again for almost a week after its five-day pause on either side of the Club World Cup commencing.
Newcastle United, however, have yet to make their first significant signings since the market reopened. They will sign Antonio Cordero - who is impressing for Spain at the European Under-19 Championship - on 1 July and Vakhtang Salia the following month.
The expectation is that neither will be part of the first-team next season. Joao Pedro and Malick Fofana would, though, go straight into the senior squad if they were to sign for the Magpies.
Pedro enquiry
Chelsea have reportedly enquired about Pedro, with the striker reputedly being on their radar for a while. ESPN cites a source when claiming they have made an enquiry.
Newcastle are also said to be very keen on the Brazil international. Pedro, though, purportedly prefers a move to London.
ChronicleLive says: Chelsea and Newcastle competing to sign Pedro could prove a difficult choice for the player, as he could conceivably end up not being a starter at either club. While the Blues' signing of Liam Delap suggests there would be more competition there, the draw of the capital could still tempt the Brazilian, especially after previously being within the M25 boundary while with Watford.
Fofana faux pas
Newcastle United are said to be keen on Malick Fofana, and Chelsea reportedly entering talks could hasten any move from the Magpies. ESPN cites sources when claiming a fee of around £40miillion-£45million is what Lyon want.
ChronicleLive says: If the Magpies were to spend circa £45million on either Fofana or Pedro, then prioritising the former would seemingly make the most sense with their need for a winger. Of course, Callum Wilson will need replacing unless the striker signs a new contract, but reinforcing out wide is of more pressing importance.
