Fans baffled by ESPN’s latest post about Angel Reese

Several fans were left scratching their heads when they saw ESPN’s post Saturday about Angel Reese.

The Phoenix Mercury held a 71-49 lead over Reese’s Chicago Sky midway through the third quarter at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill. Sky guard Ariel Atkins delivered a bullet pass to Reese behind the three-point arc. Reese drained the shot to cut the deficit to 19.

ESPN posted the clip on X with an all-caps caption hyping Reese’s shot up.

“ANGEL REESE FOR THREE,” the caption read.

Most of the replies to the post were from fans who didn’t understand why ESPN thought the play was worth posting. Chicago was down by a huge margin at that point and ended up losing 107-86. Reese was also a team-worst -25 in the contest.

I’ll never understand why ESPN continues to force one of the worst WNBA players on us over & over again

Why is someone (anyone) making a basic three point shot worthy of a highlight post?

The play turned out to be Reese’s only shot attempt from the floor. ESPN’s social media manager may have been desperate to post anything about Reese, who was a virtual no-show in the game.

Reese finished with a final line of nine points on 1/1 shooting from the field and 6/6 from the free throw line. She also tallied two rebounds and two assists.

Reese’s performance probably won’t help boost her “Mebounds” merchandise sales.
