A number of Manchester United stars are being linked with moves away from Old Trafford this summer

Manchester United endured a tough 2024-25 campaign and will be keen to put that firmly behind them when the new season rolls around in August.

Ruben Amorim’s side have signed Matheus Cunha to bolster their attack. First up in 2025-26 is Arsenal at Old Trafford, as United will be given a stern opening test to see how they have progressed on the training ground and in pre-season under Amorim.

The former Sporting CP boss is preparing to wave goodbye to a number of players this summer - namely those who were out on loan last term such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Permanent exits for those stars will provide Amorim with more transfer funds to bolster his squad. The Red Devils are also in talks with Bryan Mbeumo as they look to add much-needed goals to their attack next term.

Italian clubs make approach to sign Antony

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Italian teams have approached the Red Devils about a deal for Brazilian forward Antony. However, the former Ajax man is keen to make a return to Real Betis after reviving his career with the La Liga club.

“He would be happy to return to Betis, let's see if Betis and Man United can reach an agreement, but for sure the situation with Antony is one more to watch for Manchester United to generate money for this transfer window.”

United will be keen to move Antony on permanently rather than on loan. Without European football, the Red Devils have a reduced budget this summer and need to pull in as much from player sales as they possibly can.

Antony form with Real Betis makes him a man in demand

In 40 appearances for both United and Betis last term, Antony scored 10 goals and provided five assists. Just one of those goals came while playing for the Red Devils, which was against League One Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

Since making the loan switch to Seville, Antony proved a player reborn. His Betis teammate from last campaign, Romain Perraud, said of him: “Antony is a very good teammate. He played a great debut – he provides a very important support for us. He has magic.”

Former Real Madrid star Isco is also plying his trade with Betis and said of Antony during the campaign: “It’s very easy to play with him.”

On another occasion, he added: "We have to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year. We've noticed a change since he arrived; he brings us a lot. I'm happy to enjoy Antony. The truth is that he has surprised us all with the humility with which he arrived, with his desire to help, to contribute. The truth is that we are very happy.”
