Jose Mourinho can have last laugh over Leeds United after Jaka Bijol transfer

Jaka Bijol will become a Leeds United player over the coming days after the Whites won out amid interest from elsewhere.

His medical has happened after the Slovenia international agreed to a move from Udinese. Discussions over the final fee have delayed any announcement, with the Serie A side wanting at least £17million, while the final paperwork is still to be signed off.

Newcastle United were said to have interest, but contacts in Udine downplayed the notion that it was anything significant. Fenerbahce are another club reportedly keen on the central defender, having first shown interest during the winter window.

They, though, are reportedly ready to replace Edin Dzeko with the Leeds-linked forward Evann Guessand. The daily Turkish newspaper Sabah claims contact has intensified after Fiorentina signed the former Manchester City striker.

Premier League clubs Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as Leeds, have all been linked with Guessand. Mourinho, though, is said to have already met the player, leaving Guessand positive about joining Fenerbahce.

They are now reputedly his number one option because of a desire to work with Mourinho. Nice, however, are said to have not yet accepted their official offer.

The French club purportedly want £30million for their player. However, the outlet claims the expectation is that demand will reduce to reasonable levels during negotiations.

LeedsLive says: Of the two players, Leeds will be happier that Bijol is about to become their player as it would represent landing one of their key signings this summer. They also appear to be pursuing other forward options, such as Rodrigo Muniz, whose Premier League pedigree would seem to make such a move less of a risk for the club than going for Guessand, especially at the price Nice reportedly want in order to do business.
