Without a sale of a solitary West Ham player in sight, it is tricky being overly optimistic about the Hammers’ squad overhaul as other clubs continue to get their transfer business done early.
However the club appear adamant that their midfielder makeover is a priority (of course along with the strikers, left winger, goal keeper…you know the score by now).
So continued reports ( ExWHUEmployee) that West Ham targets Mario Stroekyens – Anderlecht’s attacking midfielder- and Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika are still top priorities are like little rays of sunshine in an otherwise bleak transfer landscape.

The Hammers are finding reported targets getting picked off – or perhaps more difficult to take, ‘rejecting’ a move to London Stadium.
Whilst not surprising it is confounding when the recruitment team over-reach and aim for players that would never dream of coming – ‘out of our league’ has never been so apt an expression; Does anybody really think for one moment that Richard Rios, linked with PSG, AC Milan and – West Ham – is going to choose an East London relegation battle instead of either of those two European giants?
Whilst Stroekyens and Onyedika remain ‘available’ and linked with the Hammers there is cause for optimism. A revitalised midfield is still possible this summer. And September is a long way off.
Plenty of time, honest.
