Newcastle United remain interested in several Premier League players as they bide their time in the summer transfer window, with a busy campaign that includes Champions League football to come - but some fans in the Chronicle Live comments section are finding some of the club's targets to be unimpressive, and urge Eddie Howe to look elsewhere.
One example of this is Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga, who helped them to an impressive seventh-place finish last season. Newcastle have retained their interest in the winger, but Forest are thought to want £60 million for him - a tall price to pay.
Chelsea could yet force a race to sign Brighton's Joao Pedro, who could end up leaving his club for a fee of around £70 million. Newcastle have all but conceded defeat in the competition for Bryan Mbeumo's signature, who is likely to end up at either Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester United.
Some of the Magpies' best business in recent times has come from abroad instead, with head of recruitment Steve Nickson renowned for casting his net far and wide - Alexander Isak has become a star, admired by top clubs in England and beyond, since his transfer from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022.
Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have transformed the Newcastle midfield, both becoming icons of the Saudi-led era, while Sven Botman - when fit - is a colossus at the back.
Some fans want to see more of that, instead of ending up in scraps over the best England-based talent. Reader Motivation says: "Newcastle are sitting ducks when it comes to overpriced players. They should not pay over the odds for decent, but not exceptional players.

Commenter EdenPark agrees: "Premier League players are vastly over-priced. Europe, Africa, Asia and South America are where the value lies, but also risky."
Lexusslk writes: "Stop looking in England for players, they are overpriced and want too much in wages. Go buy in Europe. Just look at Tonali, what a buy, that should be our salesroom. Forget England, I can't believe how much some of these average players want to be paid."
Bryd60 says: "What's astute about buying a proven Premier League international player for £60m? Now, if we got him 3 years ago for £5m, I would have agreed."
MuzaMin1 says: "I'm getting sick of this nonsense that our priority is 'Premier League proven', it's proven that everyone in the PL costs a fortune. Go aboard and get better for cheaper. So what if we need to bleed them into our style? That's what preseason is for."
Hotmog69 writes: "Hopefully the first week in July is when we really start strutting our stuff and show intent. But I personally think the scouting system and sporting director role needs looking at...

"What are the scouts doing, because all we are ever linked with are players who are doing well in the Premier League which every supporter knows about anyway, or the known players in the other top leagues who we know about without the scouts' knowledge.
"Why aren't they finding any gems and talent like Brighton or Brentford, and clubs like that?"
