Leeds United summer transfer plan laid bare - Daniel Farke admission, 49ers stance and budget

Leeds United have made a bright start to the transfer window and know they'll need to maintain momentum from last season if they want the best possible chance of survival in the top flight.

Daniel Farke will have the backing of the Leeds ownership group as they look to avoid the drop following promotion last season.

The Whites, along with the other newly promoted sides, will be the favourites for the drop and need investment in the current transfer window to give them the best possible chance of survival.

With that in mind, LeedsLive has taken a look at what those at the top have said about the Whites' transfer window and what their plans look like.

Daniel Farke admission

Leeds know they need investment this summer if they want survive in the top flight and realise 49ers Enterprises and become one of the biggest clubs in Europe. The Whites hierarchy will give Farke their backing in the transfer market but the head coach has already made his feelings clear.

The German made it clear that he wanted to get transfer business done early and so far, they've done that with the signing of Lukas Nmecha and soon-to-be announced Jaka Bijol.

"That's definitely the plan [to stay up]," said Farke after being crowned the League Manager's Association (LMA) Championship Manager of the Year. "I don't want to come across as arrogant and tell everyone it's easy. All the recently promoted sides are really good, big names, spending lots of money but not able to stay in the league. But one thing is for sure, we will try."

Paraag Marathe and 49ers stance clear

"You've got to nail your transfers," Paraag Marathe said in a chat with Leeds Live and other reporters earlier this summer. "You've got to nail the players that come in that really fit the style of play. You want to have [them] fit the club and play together cohesively. I think that's really important."

Having stuck by Farke following promotion to the Premier League, the 49ers know they have to provide enough finances for Leeds to be competitive on their return to the top flight. Last summer's decision to sell key players like Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville for substantial fees helped the club from a PSR standpoint and the club's decision not to spend in the recent January window was due to the Whites walking a financial tightrope.

Leeds want to spend and know they have to - but bringing in the right player, for the right value will be hugely important.

Leeds transfer budget and what comes next

Leeds will have a reported £100m-£150million to spend in the current transfer window and look set to spend big with the arrival of defender Bijol from Udinese. The Whites know they're still bound by PSR and have to be realistic about their ambitions for this season.

The Whites have been active early on in the transfer window, but LeedsLive understands the Whites are not close to any more signings and it's ulikely that will change until the next financial year begins in July.

Leeds will likely target a new goalkeeper and look to strengthen at left-back and up front before the summer transfer window closes.
