Former Ohio State star, NFL player charged in crash that left 24-year-old dead Saturday

Kirk Barton, a former star offensive lineman at Ohio State who also played in the NFL, has been charged with aggravated vehicular manslaughter charges after a crash early Saturday morning.

[**WKYC reported that police in Dublin, Ohio**](https://people.com/former-ohio-state-football-player-kirk-barton-arrested-following-fatal-car-crash-11758895) said they got a call of a crash at around 3 a.m. They said that the 40-year-old Barton was driving his Ford F150 Raptor truck the wrong way on U.S. Route 33 before turning around and heading back in the right direction at “excessive speeds.”

Police said that he hit a Lexus IS 250, driven by 24-year-old Ethan Perry. Perry was pronounced dead at the scene, while Barton suffered non-life-threatening injuries. WKYC reported that records showed that Barton “admitted drinking alcohol before the crash.”

The outlet said he is slated to appear in court on Monday.

Barton was a four-year starter — 2003-to-2007 — at right tackle for the Buckeyes. He started in two national title games and was a team captain in 2007. He was also a first-team All-American in 2007.

The 6-foot-5, 303 pounder was drafted in the seventh-round, 247th-overall, by the Chicago Bears in 2008. He spent time with the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers before wrapping up his career following the 2010 season.
