Alexander Isak told of'problem'he must solve if Arsenal transfer is to happen

Arsenal have been told that they will need to wait for Alexander Isak to take matters into his own hands if they want to prise the Newcastle United striker from St James' Park.

Ex-Newcastle midfielder Geremi insisted that it will be down to Isak to push for a move to another Premier League club, with both the Gunners and Liverpool interested in securing his services.

Arsenal have been interested in the Swedish forward for quite some time, with their priority this summer continuing to be a top-quality number nine.

Meanwhile, the Reds are planning to replace current striker Darwin Nunez, who is currently up for sale. But despite the interest from the two Premier League giants, Newcastle have no interest in selling.

According to The Telegraph, tempting Isak away from St James' Park would command a fee north of £150million.

The forward has three years remaining on his contract at St James' Park, and hasn't shown any real signs of wanting out. However, Geremi believes that could be the key for Arsenal or Liverpool if they want to secure the 25-year-old goalscorer.

"First of all, [Newcastle] need to keep their best players at all costs," Geremi told BoyleSports, known for offering the latest Club World Cup odds.

And delving into the problem Isak must solve himself, Geremi added: "I'm not sure Newcastle would sell Isak for any fee, but it would become an issue if the player took the decision into his own hands."

The ex-Cameroon international claims that after lifting the Carabao Cup and securing a Champions League spot this year, Newcastle stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Geremi continued: "He had a great season and is at one of the biggest teams in the world when it comes to financial backing.

"The environment is all there and I don't think he would gain anything by moving to Liverpool or Arsenal. I think Newcastle are at the same level. Newcastle are now contenders to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

"When they got new owners, I said it would take them three or four years and a trophy to put them in that position, and now they are there. They are ready to compete because they have been built under Eddie Howe, they have the right finances, and they are an attractive proposition for new players.

"New signings will have no doubt about joining the club this summer, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have an incredible season."

Regarding Arsenal's hunt for a formidable striker, Benjamin Seskso or Viktor Gyokeres seem to be the likelier targets. A solid number nine is essential as the Gunners aim to convert their consistent second-placed finishes into Premier League glory.

Liverpool's transfer activity is continuing to heat up this summer, with the double signing of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. With Wirtz's move potentially reaching an eye-watering £116m, Liverpool have already broken the British transfer record.
