The move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium has been described as being “a new dawn” for the club by Everton. And a set of spectacular photographs show the Blues’ future 52,888-capacity home in a new light on the summer solstice.

With the sun rising in Liverpool at 4:43am on Saturday, June 21, it was an early start for Everton photographer Tony McArdle on the longest day of the year as he ‘crossed the water’ to take up a vantage point on Wirral to capture stunning views of both the Hill Dickinson Stadium and Goodison Park, where the Blues played for 133 years from 1892-2025.

David Moyes’ men will now make the two-mile journey to relocate to the Mersey waterfront at Bramley-Moore Dock to play in what already appears to be an iconic-looking venue that has taken its place as the new jewel in the crown along Liverpool’s world-famous maritime cityscape, alongside the likes of the Three Graces and the city’s two cathedrals.

Designed by Dan Meis, the US architect described how he wanted to create a building that would fit in among its surroundings. He said: “Really the idea was to make the new stadium feel like it's always been here and belongs in this area.

“Sure, there's a futuristic element, but it really feels like it grew out of the dock. It feels part of the history of Liverpool and the docks, and yet something very new, too.”

It’s been a momentous week for the Hill Dickinson Stadium with the confirmation on Monday that, after two test events featuring Everton’s Under-18s and then Under-21s sides, the inaugural first-team match will be against Italian Serie A outfit Roma, also owned by The Friedkin Group, on Saturday, August 9.

A fortnight later, the Blues will then play their first competitive fixture at the stadium when they host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday August 23, in their first home game of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
