Ilkay Gundogan could quit Manchester City this summer following Pep Guardiola’s latest snub.
The 34-year-old has emerged as a target for Turkish giants Galatasaray in recent days after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City have already seen Kevin De Bruyne leave this summer, while Jack Grealish has been cut out of the first-team picture.
Guardiola usually lets the players vote on who should be the captain, but this time the Catalan boss has decided Bernardo Silva will wear the armband, with Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland named as vice-captains.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Gundogan could leave this summer following his notable omission from the captaincy list.
The retired Germany international originally left the Manchester giants to join Barcelona on a free transfer in 2023, but he returned just 12 months later on a two-year deal.

Galatsaray could offer Man City star ‘big-money’ deal
Borson revealed Galatasaray could offer Gundogan a big-money deal to quit Man City after they have agreed to sign Leroy Sane.
He told Football Insider: “He wasn’t on the captaincy list that Pep chose.
“Pep usually puts it to the players, but this time decided that he was going to select them after what happened with Walker last season.
“It was notable that Gundogan, who is the obvious person who would be on that list, was not on that list, so I think there’s a possibility that he leaves. I don’t think it’s a certainty.
“I think City would have probably wanted to sell at least one of Kovacic, Gundogan and Silva out of that midfield, all given their age.
“Kovacic has now got injured, so he’s not fit until August. I think that the chances of selling him anytime before the deadline are probably pretty slim.
“I think if Galatasaray did move for Gundogan and we know that they’ve got money, they just raised $250million. They made some Turkish filings in respect to that.
“We know they spent an absolute fortune on Sane’s wages from Bayern Munich.
“He was a free transfer, but his wages are up to €12million net, so Galatasaray take care of the tax on that, which would be the equivalent of something like £400,000 a week for an English club to match Sane’s wages.
“So, they’ll pay big money and that could be the way in which they get Gundogan and, of course, Istanbul is an amazing city and Gundogan is of Turkish descent, so it makes sense in that respect.”
