Jeremie Frimpong makes'extra fun'Florian Wirtz claim and excitedly reacts to Liverpool transfer

Jeremie Frimpong says he is "really excited" to have joined Liverpool, where he will link up once again with his former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz.

In an exciting double swoop worth a total of $195 million (£145 million) including add-ons, Frimpong and Wirtz have both moved to Anfield, with Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez potentially set to become the next through the door. And the Dutch wing-back cannot wait to get started.

"I'm really excited," Frimpong told ESPN Netherlands. "I'm really looking forward to playing with Liverpool. And of course Florian Wirtz, my good friend, he's coming too.

"That makes it extra fun. I also already know some guys from the national team. So yeah, I'm really up for it. I can't wait for it to start."

As well as Wirtz, Frimpong also knows Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo from his time with the Netherlands senior squad. And while John Heitinga has departed, the Dutch contingent at Liverpool will be maintained.

It is only 16 days until Liverpool returns for pre-season training. With Frimpong, Wirtz and the highly rated young goalkeeper Armin Pecsi already through the door, there could be even more new signings by then.

Wirtz spoke about having watched the Premier League title celebrations and being excited at the prospect of winning silverware. And head coach Arne Slot, who has seamlessly taken over from Jurgen Klopp, is another major appeal for new additions.

"Yes, definitely," Frimpong said of his new boss. "When I first spoke to him, I immediately noticed that he was interested. He said he really wanted me at Liverpool and that I would fit well into the team.

"And when you hear that Arne Slot wants you — and then to play for Liverpool too — that's just an honor, you know? How could I say no?"

With a release clause worth around $39 million (£30 million) written into his contract, Frimpong was an attainable capture when Trent Alexander-Arnold moved to Real Madrid. He will compete for minutes with Conor Bradley at full-back, but can also play in attack.

"I’m playing for Liverpool, what more can I say?" Frimpong said in his first interview as a Reds player. "My whole family is excited for me, and my girlfriend. So, I’m happy, blessed.

"I think it went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’ It went quite smoothly, there were no problems."

Liverpool.com says: Frimpong is a really exciting addition. He is a very different player from Alexander-Arnold but Slot wanted "new weapons" in his roster, and the Dutchman definitely represents that.
