Anthony Elanga’s social media activity has sparked a frenzy among Newcastle United supporters.
Elanga has again emerged as a transfer target for Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s side first showed interest in the Swede last June as part of the PSR swindle that saw Elliot Anderson move to Nottingham Forest but ended up taking Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos instead.
The Magpies then made another move on deadline day but an agreement was never close. Elanga stayed and played a key part in a historic campaign for Forest, where they secured a spot in next season’s Europa Conference League and reached the semi-final of the FA Cup.
As a result, a deal for the former Manchester United man won’t come cheap amid suggestions the Reds will close to £60m. Signing a right winger is a priority for Howe, with Jacob Murphy the only recognised option following Miguel Almiron’s return to Atlanta United in January.
Anthony Elanga can’t stop messaging ‘agent’ Will Osula
Knowing of their club’s interest, Newcastle fans have been keeping a close eye on Elanga’s social media activity and his messages back and forth with Will Osula only fuelling speculation.
Osula’s latest post came after he scored twice for Denmark under-21s in their 2-1 European Championship comeback win over the Netherlands last Sunday. It confirmed Denmark’s place in the quarter-finals, where they take on France at 5pm this evening.

After the match, Osula wrote on Instagram: “2 Goals ⚽️⚽️ GODS Work ✞Through to quarter-final.” Elanga appeared to acknowledge that his replies to Osula were causing a stir. He said: “Not gonna say too much” before adding: “...Keep going ma boy 🔥.”
A few days earlier, Osula scored a late winner in Denmark’s 3-2 opening game victory over Ukraine to which Elanga responded “W’s in the chat cuzooo.” He also commented on Osula’s previous post about his visit to New York City, saying “My boy.”
Anthony Elanga teases Newcastle United
If the exchanges between the pair weren’t teasing, then Elanga’s latest social media post definitely is!
The 23-year-old is currently on holiday and has uploaded a series of photos on Instagram. And in the very last image, Elanga is pictured playing padel in an AFC Bournemouth with ‘Semenyo 24’ on the back while the person he is with is wearing a, yep, you guessed it, a Newcastle shirt.
Unsurprising, it sparked a frenzy among Newcastle fans. The post itself brought responses from Anthony Gordon, Sven Botman and, of course, Osula. Gordon wrote “yallaa”, Botman said “Mykooo” and Osula replied “henjoyment my boy”.
Let’s be honest, Elanga knows what he is doing.
Anthony Elanga addresses speculation
On international duty last month, Elanga was quizzed about the recent transfer links. He said: There is a lot of talk. I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.”
Elanga is international teammates with Emil Krafth and Alexander Isak and he revealed last year he spoke to the latter about Newcastle’s interest.
“Isak talked to me about it (Newcastle’s interest),” he said. “But I said the same to him as I say to you.
“We have a good relationship and good chemistry when we play together. But I have a contract with Nottingham. The environment in Nottingham is good. It is clear that you can see that Newcastle are interested, it means that I am playing good football when a big club shows interest.
“But Nottingham is also a big club, they have won two Champions Leagues, even though it was before I was born. But I’m happy in Nottingham and have a contract there. I’m focusing on Nottingham and hope to have a good season, then we’ll see what happens.”
