Police have released six CCTV images of men they wish to speak to after violence broke out on Deansgate the night before Manchester United played FC Twente.

United faced the Dutch side in the Europa League on Wednesday, September 24 last year, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

But 24 hours earlier, on the evening of Tuesday, September 23, disorder broke out in the city centre.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News at the time that 'around 100 young men wearing balaclavas and black clothing' were seen storming Deansgate - letting fireworks off 'towards people' and 'causing panic in the area'.

"The situation escalated quickly, and the police were called in to deal with the chaos," the taxi driver said.

"People were screaming and trying to get away from the scene, and Deansgate became a zone of panic."

FC Twente supporters were understood to have been involved in the disorder at the time.

Greater Manchester Police says it has made 17 arrests in connection with the disorder so far.

Those previously arrested all remain on police bail while enquiries continue.
