Leeds United must play waiting game on left-back transfer but loan could suit everyone

Leeds United will have to continue to play a patient waiting game if they are to secure Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Hugo Bueno this summer. The Whites have already had to be patient in that department having been made to wait by Junior Firpo to discover whether he will accept the contract offer put on the table some weeks ago.

Firpo looks set to sign for Real Betis and reject Leeds' offer of staying at Elland Road, leaving Daniel Farke in need of a new starting left-back. According to reports in Spain, that search is closing in on Wolves' player Bueno.

The Spaniard is under contract at Molineux for a further three years and spent last season on loan at Feyenoord. The Dutch team would like to keep hold of Bueno after he impressed in Rotterdam, whether that is through another season-long loan or whether on a permanent deal as would be their preference if the price is right.

The Spain under-21 international is understood to be keeping his options open while he awaits for Wolves to make their intentions clear. Having recently sold Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City, Wolves have not ruled out letting Bueno leave also, with the club set on a rebuild this summer with a host of players reportedly set to depart the club.

However, it seems likely the club will bring the defender back into the fold this summer to assess the progress of the player before making a decision on the next steps. Having been away on international duty at the European Championships, Bueno will report back a little later for pre-season training. That means Leeds need to be patient and wait if they want to get a deal done, but that wait could prove fruitful if Wolves opt for another one-year loan and agree to a switch to Elland Road.

LeedsLive understands the Whites are happy to play a patient waiting game with their next move in the transfer market having made a solid start with the additions of Lukas Nmecha and Jaka Bijol, the latter of which is set to be announced imminently.
