Spanish side Atletico Madrid have entered the race to sign one of Manchester United’s top targets for this summer’s transfer window.

Argentine manager, Diego Simeone has been at Atletico Madrid since December 2011.

Since then he has led the club to a Champions League final, he has won the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and La Liga on two occasions and has won one Spanish Super Cup and one Copa Del Rey.

A feat not to be disrespected considering Atletico are competing against the powerhouses of world football, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Diego Simeone has been given several plaudits and heaps of praise for the job he has done in Madrid, which is well deserved.

The Spanish club qualified for this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, however they have got off to a mixed start in the group stages, losing 4-0 to PSG and winning 3-1 against Seattle Sounders.

Even with their focus turned on the Club World Cup, Atletico are still looking to improve their squad for the upcoming season.

According to The Telegraph, Atletico Madrid have now entered to race for Manchester United target, Emi Martinez.

It is understood that if current goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, chooses to end his decade-long stint as Atletico’s No.1, the Spanish club will approach Aston Villa for Emi Martinez.

Oblak, 32, is currently starting for Atletico in this summer’s Club World Cup, but the Slovenian has been regularly linked with a move away from the Metropolitano Stadium.

Manchester United fans and Ruben Amorim have both been hoping the club can secure a deal for a new goalkeeper and the World Cup winner seems to be at the top of their list.

After several mistakes from United’s current No.1, Andre Onana, Ruben Amorim has had enough and is hoping to replace the man from Cameroon for next season.

Amorim will be hoping Jan Oblak decides to stay so he can secure the signature of Argentina’s Emi Martinez, and continue re-building Manchester United’s squad.
