A few days ago, Newcastle’s hopes of landing Marc Guehi appeared to take a fresh blow.

The Telegraph reported that Liverpool were lining up a ‘significant offer’ for the Crystal Palace centre-back, while Luke Edwards admitted on X that Eddie Howe was in danger of missing out on another long-term target.

However, an update has arrived from [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/jun/21/liverpool-marc-guehi-crystal-palace-contract-england-football) this weekend which suggests Newcastle’s hopes of landing the 24-year-old are far from dead.

Senior reporter Jacob Steinberg reveals that Newcastle are ‘still very much in the mix’, as the Eagles captain considers his options. He will only join a club where he will play regularly next season, with game time as ‘big consideration’ as he remains ‘open minded’ about his next move.

With Liverpool currently having Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as their centre-back duo, it’s thought this could be a stumbling block, leaving Guehi uncertain of guaranteed starts at Anfield.

This could open the door for Newcastle, who are clear long-term admirers given our summer-long pursuit 12 months ago, which ended in disappointment as we refused to match Palace’s £70m asking price.

The Guardian do, however, report that there is still a chance Guehi opts to see out his contract at Selhurst Park and leave as a free agent next summer, although Palace are reluctant to miss out on a sizeable fee or the England international and seem more likely to sell up for a cut-price fee over the next few months.

Tottenham are thought to still retain an interest in fear of Cristian Romero leaving for Atletico Madrid, but Chelsea are unlikely to follow up previous interest.
