Leeds may have unearthed the next Petr Cech in their search for a new goalkeeper.

Daniel Farke is searching for several recruits who can help his side to survive in the Premier League next season.

One position that desperately needs an upgrade is between the sticks as Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow have both proven that they are not up to scratch.

Leeds can seal new Cech amid Fofana news

Angers stopper Yahia Fofana is a target for Leeds and is reportedly available for a fee of £8.4million with a summer exit on the cards.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the Whites may have unearthed a diamond that could have a similar impact to the legendary Petr Cech.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “He was the regular goalkeeper for Angers last season in France and at that kind of price, they have obviously scouted him, and they like the look of him.

“There is a bit of a history of goalkeepers coming from France and doing pretty well, leading that list would be Petr Cech, who came from Rennes to Chelsea.

“Nobody had heard of him, and he proved to be superb, among the top goalkeepers ever in the Premier League.

“They will be hoping that they have unearthed a little gem like that.

“Developments last season with Meslier and Darlow at the end, they will be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, maybe this is the guy.”

Fofana would be a steal for Leeds

The Ivorian made 33 appearances for the French outfit last season and kept seven clean sheets as he helped Les Scoistes to Ligue 1 survival.

The 49ers and Farke have to get the transfer window spot on and signing the young keeper for such a low fee would allow them to spend more on other areas of the squad that need reinforcements.

The Whites need a forward with doubts over Joel Piroe’s future, and a left-winger is on the agenda as loanee Manor Solomon’s status at Tottenham is uncertain.

Left-back is another priority as Junior Firpo is set to depart, with Liverpool star Kostas Tsimikas a potential option for the LS11 outfit.
