Manchester United have prioritised bolstering the attack during this summer’s transfer window.
They had one of the poorest attacks in the Premier League last term, scoring the fifth-fewest goals in the division.
United have completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves—one of the league’s best attackers last season—and are now targeting Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
United had submitted a £45 million plus £10m in add-ons bid for the Cameroon international, but Brentford rejected it.
The Manchester outfit have now placed a £65m plus add-ons offer to the Bees and are pushing to finalise a deal for Mbeumo, according to journalist Sebastien Vidal.
Brentford reportedly want more than £60m for their star forward, which means United’s latest offer should be enough to seal the transfer.
The Cameroonian prefers a move to the Red Devils despite Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in his signature.
Tottenham signalled interest in signing the left-footed forward after appointing Thomas Frank as their new manager.
The duo enjoyed a brilliant spell at Brentford, with Frank once describing Mbeumo as an ‘incredible player‘.
Tottenham intend to offer the Troyes academy product a higher salary than Man United, but he has already set his sights on moving to Old Trafford.
Mbeumo’s signing will represent another significant coup for United in this transfer window, given the absence of Champions League football.
It would also mean that Man United still remain a preferred destination for top players despite the club’s current status.
The Red Devils are still expected to sign at least one more forward this summer after the signing of Mbeumo.
They have been linked with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, but his £70m valuation makes the move unlikely.
Mbeumo and Semenyo have been considered for the number 10 roles, but with the Cameroonian forward likely to arrive, United are expected to shift focus towards signing a striker.
