£31m star that Man United missed out on just made'dream debut', Ineos will be full of regret

Manchester United are moving quickly this summer window but Ineos have already missed out on some top targets.

Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves on the first day of the summer transfer window, but adding further signings to the squad has proven difficult.

Manchester United missed out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, with the Blues winning the £30 million race to sign the young striker.

Selling players has been a challenge so far this summer which has put a spanner in Ineos’ transfer plans. After Delap, United also missed out on Jobe Bellingham with the youngster choosing to join Borussia Dortmund in a £31m deal.

Jobe Bellingham makes ‘dream debut’ after Man Utd snub

Bellingham is following in his brother’s footsteps by moving to Dortmund and snubbing a move to Old Trafford.

United failed to lure Jude Bellingham in 2020 and now Ineos have suffered a repeat with his younger brother.

Unfortunately for United, he seems destined to follow a similar path and become a superstar – at least that’s what his Dortmund debut suggests.

Dortmund beat Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 in the Club World Cup on Saturday and Bellingham made his debut for the German outfit.

Playing in an attacking midfield role, Bellingham scored on his debut and German media were delighted with his performance.

German outlet Bild raved about Bellingham, praising his “dream debut”. They wrote: “Dream debut! His brother Jude scored on his BVB debut in the cup against Duisburg (5-0) in 2020 – Jobe now in his first starting eleven: great chest removal after Williams’ second mistake and in with the ball (45th).

“(He) later prepared the fourth goal. After he was substituted, the BVB fans sang the Beatles song “Hey Jude” at him, rewritten to “Hey Jobe”.”

Ruben Amorim’s solution to Man United midfield

It seems the priority this summer will be overhauling United’s attack with Cunha just the first piece of the puzzle.

Ineos remain in talks for Bryan Mbeumo after an initial £45m bid was rejected by Brentford. A new striker is also wanted but Viktor Gyokeres prefers a move to Arsenal.

Beyond that, United have been linked with a new goalkeeper, so it seems Amorim will have to manage with his current midfield options heading into 2025/26.

Christian Eriksen left at the end of the season which will weaken United’s midfield depth, but Amorim might play Mason Mount in midfield to bolster the numbers.

Amorim is a huge fan of Mount and clearly believes his versatility can expand to playing in a central midfield role next season.
