Alan Shearer has given short shrift to the idea that Newcastle United could sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool are interested in Isak, though there has never been any suggestion Newcastle United actually would cash in.
Indeed, Isak’s contract at Newcastle expires in the summer of 2028. Furthermore, Newcastle are planning talks with Isak about extending his deal.
Perhaps most importantly, Isak has confirmed he’s happy at Newcastle. Liverpool may be able to throw a lot of money at him but, right now, there is no need to sell.
Shearer certainly agrees.

Alan Shearer’s response when asked if Liverpool will sign Alexander Isak
The Newcastle United legend was speaking on the latest episode of The Rest is Football podcast.
He and Gary Lineker were discussing Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen, and how Arne Slot’s side would shape up with the German in the team.
Lineker then joked Isak would be alongside Wirtz in Slot’s side, to which Shearer shouted “no chance” while raising his middle fingers.
It’d be fair to say Shearer is confident, then.

Would Newcastle United sell Alexander Isak for a British record fee?
Wirtz has become the most expensive player in British history by joining Liverpool for what could eventually rise to £116million.
Newcastle value Isak at over £150million, so any team looking to buy him would have to break that record again.
Luckily, even if a British record offer came in, the club are under no financial pressure to sell up.
Earlier this week, Geordie Boot Boys spoke to football finance expert Adam Williams.
Williams highlighted that Newcastle don’t need to sell Isak for financial reasons even if a record sum was involved.
“My take would be that there is nothing forcing Newcastle to sell, even at a British record transfer fee,” he said.
“If they do relent, it will be because of strategy, not necessity.”
One day, Isak will leave St James’ Park, but it will be on Newcastle’s terms. Shearer is right to be so confident.
