Galatasaray targeting Aaron Ramsdale swoop

Galatasaray are reportedly preparing a summer swoop for Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to The Times.

Seeking a long-term successor to veteran shot-stopper Fernando Muslera, Okan Buruk’s side have their sights set on Ramsdale.

Ramsdale is currently first choice at the St Mary’s Stadium, but with Southampton now relegated, the Englishman is now actively exploring options and is largely expected to be on the move this summer.

Southampton’s demotion to the Championship has activated a £20 million release clause in Ramsdale’s contract.

The 27-year-old is not short of Premier League interest, as he remains wanted by West Ham United and Newcastle United, although neither club has made a concrete approach so far.

This could open the door to a move to Turkey for Ramsdale, who is eager to ply his trade at a top-flight club next season and boost his chances of a World Cup spot.

Galatasaray’s offer could come in the form of a season-long loan with an option to buy, mirroring the style of many high-profile Turkish deals.

The financial appeal of a move to Turkey due to their favourable tax system cannot be ignored, with more big names making the switch to the Super Lig over the last couple of seasons.

While Ramsdale is expected to take his time before deciding on his next club, a move to Istanbul could present the most immediate and stable pathway to elite-level football and boost his international ambition.

Galatasaray have already signed Leroy Sane this summer but are still targeting further additions across multiple areas of the pitch.
