Liverpool strolled to the Premier League title last season, but Arne Slot could have an even better team on his hands next season.
An entertaining Liverpool side ended up finishing ten points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League as Mohamed Salah remarkably scored 29 goals and assisted a further 18 in 38 outings.
Without the Egyptian, it could have been a difficult season for Arne Slot – Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota managed to score just 11 goals combined in the Premier League, while Andy Robertson was also far from his electric best down the left flank.
However, Liverpool have already made some signings – and might add more in a potential £346m spending spree – which could make them even more dangerous next term.
Arne Slot could have a juggernaut of a side on his hands as Liverpool target Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak
Let us set the scene.
Liverpool have already signed Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen this summer – the pair cost £116m and £30m respectively.
Next, Liverpool are set to sign Milos Kerkez in a £40m move from Bournemouth.
TBR Football understand Liverpool could still make a move for Alexander Isak – rated at £120m by Newcastle – as the Swede continues to drag his heels in contract talks with the Magpies.
Lastly, Crystal Palace are advancing in talks over a deal for Sporting CP No.26 Ousmane Diomande, which could see Marc Guehi join Liverpool in a £40m switch – the England international only has 12 months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.
Should Richard Hughes – Director of Football at Anfield – actually find a way to add Isak and Guehi to the signings of Wirtz, Frimpong and Kerkez, and complete the £346m spending spree, the starting XI at Liverpool next season could well look as scintillatingly brilliant as this.
Liverpool Potential XI for the 2025/26 campaign
The issue regarding the declining Robertson – who could yet move to Atletico Madrid – would be solved by the energy provided by Kerkez, who shone last term, scoring two goals and assisting another six in 38 Premier League games for Bournemouth.
The Hungary international loves to bomb down the left flank, where, playing behind Wirtz – who tends to drift inside rather than hug the touchline – would free up plenty of space for him to surge into.
In our hypothetical system, Kerkez would also be given added license to attack by the implementation of a new 3-4-3 formation, which would allow Slot to field Guehi alongside Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.
Frimpong – who Liverpool plan to use as a right winger – would presumably be appeased by this formation too given his love of getting forward.
The Dutchman registered 17 goal involvements in 48 games for Bayer Leverkusen last season.
If Hughes and Michael Edwards – CEO of Football at Anfield – can make this XI a reality heading into the 2025/26 campaign, Liverpool could well end up winning a lot more than just the Premier League title.
