Stoke City 'leading race' for Everton striker loan transfer

Stoke City are in the running to sign Everton striker Youssef Chermiti on loan, according to reports.

The Potters have been linked with the Portuguese youth international by AfricaFoot, alongside a host of other Championship sides, including Sheffield United, Oxford and Preston.

Chermiti would be arriving at Stoke after a difficult campaign, marred by injuries to his foot and hamstring.

In total, the 21-year-old only played four senior matches for the Toffees for a combined 42 minutes of pitch-time.

It means he is still waiting for his first goal in Everton colours since his near-£11m switch from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2023.

In his maiden season with the Toffees, Chermiti was in the Premier League matchday squad for all but the first two games of the campaign, but was only granted one start.

That’s despite the promise he showed as a teenager at Sporting. In the 22-23 season, he made a breakthrough into the first team with his boyhood club, scoring three goals in 16 league outings.

Mark Robins needs goals in his side ahead of the new campaign. Only Hull scored fewer than the Potters’ tally of 45 in the Championship last season.

The club’s top scorer was Tom Cannon, who bagged 11 goals in all competitions before his loan spell was cut short.

Winger Million Manhoef was the next best goalscorer, finding the net seven times.

There’s also talk that striker Nathan Lowe, who returned to the club from his excellent loan spell at Walsall in January, could yet be sold this summer.

He’s been linked with a £2.5m switch to League One side Huddersfield.
