Leeds United truth about attempt to land transfer target as deal gets complicated

It's been a steady start to the transfer window for Leeds United with an addition to the forward line already made and a new leading defender set to be announced. The signatures of [Lukas Nmecha](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/all-about/lukas-nmecha) and Jaka Bijol represent good business for the Whites, but there is much more that needs to be done if Daniel Farke's men are to be ready for the start of the Premier League season.

Nmecha's arrival has added more depth up top alongside Joel Piroe, while as things currently stand Leeds also have options in Patrick Bamford, Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt. At least two of those are expected to depart this summer and so Leeds need another striker, and one who is likely going to be brought in as the first choice to lead the line.

The Italian press seem convinced Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic is a player Leeds are trying to finalise a deal for. Leeds may have shown an interest in the player, but LeedsLive understands talks of a contract offer and an agreement between the parties is not correct. If Leeds do make a decision to go for Krstovic, they may find they're entering a crowded market place with the price about to escalate.

Krstovic was in great form for Lecce last season in Serie A and that has alerted more clubs to the player. The Montenegro international scored 11 goals in Serie A last season, adding five assists, combining that with impressive overall play in a struggling team which has convinced Italian club Roma to show a real interest.

With Lecce seemingly ready to cash in on a prized asset that has two years remaining on his contract, the growing interest could drive up the price for the player who entered the summer with a value of £25m. That will not favour Leeds' chances should they decide to make a move, as they try to be careful in a Profit and Sustainability Rules environment.

The Italian press are reported as saying "everyone is crazy about Nikola Krstovic" as Lecce field more interest in the player, but no further clubs have been linked at this stage and while everyone may be crazy for Krstovic, the reality is Leeds are unlikely to be 'crazy' enough to spend north of £25m on the player.
