Mateo Joseph is a hugely promising talent at Leeds, but he now finds himself in a difficult situation.

Leeds are aiming to strengthen their attack this summer and have been linked with several strikers, which does not bode well for Joseph.

The Spaniard started last season superbly. However, he fell down the pecking order under Daniel Farke and struggled for regular starts in the second half of the campaign.

Joseph was part of the Spain Under-21 squad at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship this summer, but his performances may have jeopardised his Leeds future.

Spain beaten by England as Joseph struggles

Joseph started upfront as Spain faced England in the quarter-finals of the Under-21 Euros (21 June), but it was a difficult night for the Leeds ace.

Joseph failed to make an impact going forward, as he started against former Leeds defender Charlie Cresswell and outgoing Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah.

With Joseph failing in his battles against Premier League-level opposition, it looks as though an exit this summer might be best.

Joseph needs Leeds loan exit

With Joseph set to fall further down the pecking order at Elland Road, it is clear he needs a loan move to continue his development.

The Under-21 Euros was a good opportunity to showcase his talents in a strong Spain side. However, he failed to capitalise on the chance to show Farke that he is ready to play at a higher level.

His struggles against Quansah demonstrate that he is not yet capable of competing against Premier League-quality defenders, and his lack of game time at Leeds will not help at all.

A loan move, possibly to the Championship, would be ideal for Joseph as he can feature regularly while also developing physically, and Leeds fans would not like to see such a promising talent sold just yet.

Joseph will need to succeed on this loan if he is to make it at Leeds in the future. However, the summer plan has now become clear after the Euros.
