Exclusive: How Gabriel Martinelli feels about leaving Arsenal after Bayern Munich interest

Bayern Munich have made an enquiry to sign Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli this summer, TBR Football understands.

Arsenal have been on the hunt for a new winger this summer to elevate Mikel Arteta’s attack, but that addition wasn’t supposed to be at the expense of Gabriel Martinelli.

In fact, Arsenal want to give Martinelli a new contract this summer along with Leandro Trossard, and if anything, any new winger will be coming in to replace Raheem Sterling.

Arsenal don’t regret signing Sterling on loan from Chelsea, but there’s certainly a lot of room for new sporting director Andrea Berta to find an upgrade this summer.

That being said, the landscape will change significantly if Arsenal listen to any interest from Bayern in Martinelli, a player who could face a big decision this summer.

Gabriel Martinelli considering his future at Arsenal despite new contract talk

That being said, TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Martinelli is considering his options right now and he is ‘open’ in regards to his future.

Chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed that Bayern have turned to Martinelli after missing out on two of their top targets this summer — Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams.

Arsenal also wanted the Spaniard themselves but Williams has decided to join Barcelona, a decision that has also frustrated Bayern.

Now, Bayern are looking at other options and Martinelli has joined a list that includes Kaoru Mitoma, Cody Gakpo, Jamie Gittens and Rafael Leao — wingers Bayern have done work on.

But now Bayern have been in contact with Arsenal to sign Martinelli, who is thinking carefully about his next step, as explained.

In terms of the Brazilian’s potential options, the Saudi Pro League are also interested in Martinelli.

And it’s worth pointing out that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid also made an enquiry to sign the Arsenal forward earlier in the summer before they ultimately settled on Villarreal’s Alex Baena.

Martinelli once said he wanted to win the Champions League at Arsenal

Speaking to FourFourTwo in 2020, Martinelli made it very clear at the time that he wanted to become an Arsenal ‘legend’, a club he intended to win it all with.

Of course, that is still a very realistic prospect, Martinelli is still a long way away from leaving Arsenal this summer.

But it is now interesting to revisit those comments, given that things haven’t quite panned out for the 24-year-old as expected just yet.

Speaking five years ago, Martinelli said: “I want to win the Champions League and lots of domestic titles to make Arsenal’s fans very happy.

“They deserve the best – not only the supporters but all of the club’s staff. I’d like to give back to the club after everything they’ve done for me so far and, as a result, become a Gunners legend.”

A seriously popular player at the Emirates, and one that a lot of fans would be disappointed to watch leave.
