As the final day of the Travelers Championship commences, Tommy Fleetwood finds himself just hours away from etching his name in the history books. The Southport-born star is gunning for his first-ever PGA title—despite earning close to $30m on the stateside tour—as he sits pretty at the top of the standings in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The 34-year-old has been putting on a world-class golfing display so far, shooting a seven-under-par 63 in the third round on Saturday. It is form that has catapulted him into a three-shot lead over the likes of second placed Keegan Bradley, Russell Henley (third), Jason Day (fourth) and Wyndham Clark (fifth), among others.

"(Winning) will come down to a bunch of things," Fleetwood told CBS Sports.

"I haven't been in contention much at all this year, I've been on the outskirts if you like.

"My best finishes have been just outside of being in contention, but like really close, so to put myself there and be in the last group (on Sunday), I'm really happy with that.

"I've been here plenty of times, I'm looking forward to it, I'm happy with the work I've done and happy I've bounced back for the first few days of this tournament from last week (US Open).

"It's just an amazing opportunity for me to go out and enjoy it, and hopefully it's our time."

With the Merseyside golfer potentially 18 holes away from a landmark win in his burgeoning career, the ECHO takes a deep dive into his personal life.

Currently ranked 17th in the world, Fleetwood has earned $1 million each for two runner-up finishes and one T3 finish.

He left the US Open in 2018 with $1.29 million, $1.12 million from the Open Championship in 2019, and $1.04 million at the Masters 2024.

Tommy Fleetwood's wife and manager in one

Tommy Fleetwood has been married to Clare since 2017

The PGA superstar met wife Clare through Joe, his brother, as he worked with her at Hambric Sports Management.

Tommy then made the switch to Hambric in 2015 and it only took until the end of the year for his soon-to-be life partner to become his manager.

It's safe to say the couple hit it off almost right away, leading to them getting married on a beach in the Bahamas in 2017.

Speaking to the Performance People Podcast, Clare explained: "We've got a 23-year age difference, of course I turned him down, I was like, 'Don't be stupid'."

While she has two other sons from a previous relationship, both Clare and Tommy share just the one child; Franklin Fleetwood, who was born in September 2017.

At the age of just four, young Franklin would go viral for playing caddie for his dad at the Par 3 Contest in 2022.

Tommy Fleetwood is a true blue

Despite living in America, Fleetwood hasn't forgotten his Merseyside roots and is a proud Evertonian. Speaking on the Sports Agents podcast with hosts Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan about his love for the Blues, Fleetwood said: “Like, I love being Everton fan, because you just never know what's going to happen. And it definitely prepares you for a lot of things in life.

“Do you know what? it's really nice when you see an Everton fan, wherever you are in the world, because you have this like joint suffering.

“You have this mutual connection, that you just look at each other, and you know that you've been put through it like every weekend for the last few years.”
