Arsenal's £42M target sees interest explode with unexpected new contender

Bayern Munich have stepped up their interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, potentially complicating Arsenal’s attempt to hijack Chelsea’s pursuit of the 20-year-old.

With primary targets such as Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams slipping away, the German champions have turned to Bynoe-Gittens as the most realistic option to bolster Vincent Kompany’s left flank.

Liverpool’s £116 million deal for Wirtz and Barcelona’s front-running position for Williams have forced Bayern to explore alternative targets.

Efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola have also hit a wall, with L’Equipe reporting that any deal for the Frenchman appears “almost impossible.”

Bynoe-Gittens has now become Bayern’s most advanced lead, with the club already contacting Borussia Dortmund and the player’s representatives to begin exploratory talks.

However, Bayern are not alone in their pursuit.

Chelsea have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Bynoe-Gittens and remain in ongoing negotiations with Dortmund, who have rejected multiple bids worth up to £42 million.

Despite falling behind in the race, Arsenal are understood to have made a late move for the winger as Mikel Arteta looks to reinforce his attacking options.

The Gunners have long been eyeing a Bundesliga signing this summer, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko also on their radar.

Yet Arsenal’s delay may prove costly.

Reports suggest that Bynoe-Gittens is committed to a Chelsea move unless the deal collapses, leaving Arsenal in a reactive position.

The Dortmund winger is considered one of England’s brightest young prospects, offering directness, flair and two-footed versatility on either wing.

Arsenal’s wider recruitment plans remain active.

The club have made enquiries into Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, although no talks have been held.

While Madueke is not officially for sale, he could be pushed down the pecking order if Chelsea secure Bynoe-Gittens.

Arsenal had also targeted Nico Williams earlier in the summer, but the Spain international is now expected to join Barcelona unless Bayern can change the picture late on.

With Madueke and Bynoe-Gittens both under observation, Arsenal’s wide-forward shortlist remains fluid.

But as Chelsea move closer to landing Gittens and Bayern enter the fray, the Gunners’ room for manoeuvre is narrowing — and their caution in the market may once again leave them playing catch-up.
