Despite the success of last season, the campaign was a mixed one in some aspects at Leeds United. Daniel Farke capped off an incredible campaign with a league title, but there were some baffling decisions.
The Leeds United boss stuck to a small squad rotation for most parts of the season. And that almost cost him when his key midfield pairing got injured in the middle of the season. Farke’s squad management has been rightfully criticized at some points of his reign so far.

The confusing decisions continued this past season as some of the club’s newest signings rarely saw the field. Isaac Schmidt and Largie Ramazani only got some minutes near the tail end of the season.

So that meant for most of the campaign, all the club’s starters knew their positions were safe as there was barely any competition in the team. Mateo Joseph suffered from this; he was limited to cameos off the bench from January, even when Joel Piroe went 10 games without scoring.
Leeds’ latest signing Lukas Nmecha has spoken about his transfer, and how he is keen to make an impact next season:
“I had a few minute appearances back in my City days but I am excited to really put my foot down and show what I can do.”
When the forward was asked about what impact he would have on the team, he said:
“Of course. I think every player comes in wanting to do their thing.
“But I am definitely dedicated and working hard ready for the start of the season.”
Nmecha’s injuries may be a concern
Reports from sources within the club indicated that Nmecha may be used as a rotation option instead of being a main starter. The news was a bit confusing, but the 26-year old’s injury history might indicate why that notion remains.

Since 2021, Nmecha has missed 73 games. And this has come from quite serious injuries to his knee and hamstring. Hopefully Leeds know this and will prioritize managing him well to get the best out of him.
