Leeds United consider swoop for talented Wolves and Aston Villa pair amid key development

Leeds United have placed stars from Aston Villa and Wolves on their shortlist

Championship winners Leeds United are believed to be weighing up transfer options from both Aston Villa and Wolves as they aim to solve their left-back conundrum ahead of the new season. The Whites returned to the Premier League at the second time of asking under Daniel Farke by achieving 100 points over the course of the 2024/25 season.

It’s a tally that’s seven higher than what they managed under Marcelo Bielsa more than five years ago but still leaves Farke with plenty to do in terms of recruitment if he is to repeat the heroics of the legendary Argentinian coach by keeping Leeds in the promised land of the Premier League. Leeds will need to get recruitment right if they are to survive in this division and break the mould of promoted teams going straight back down to the second tier.

Leeds United express interest in Hugo Bueno

Leeds United are expected to test Wolves’ resolve with a move to sign Hugo Bueno, according to a report from the Express. The outlet explains that Daniel Farke is an admirer of the Spanish Under-21 international, who spent last season out on loan at Dutch heavyweights Feyenoord

Bueno made 30 appearances across all competitions for Robin van Persie’s side, including nine in the Champions League as the team finished third in the Eredivisie while also reaching the round-of-16 of Europe’s elite competition before falling short against eventual finalists Inter Milan.

The youngster had made 50 appearances in total for Wolves since rising through the academy system but has never quite been able to establish himself as a first team regular with many of his appearances coming from the bench. However, the recent sale of left-back Rayan Ait Nouri could hand Bueno a golden chance to change that narrative next season.

At this stage, it’s unclear whether Vitor Pereira sees Bueno as part of his plans or whether he’d prefer to cash in on him and use the funds to help sign an alternative player in that position.

Leeds are in need of a left-back after Junior Firpo’s decision to leave on a free transfer. He’s likely to head back to Europa Conference League runners-up Real Betis after four seasons at Elland Road based on recent reports.

Leeds could also move for Aston Villa ace

Birmingham World understands that Alex Moreno remains on the radar of Leeds United heading into the summer window. The 32-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but struggled for first team football with just 15 league appearances and only 11 starts.

He’s likely to enter this season as third choice behind French international Lucas Digne and Netherlands ace Ian Maatsen, who was signed last summer.

It’s suspected Leeds could try and make a loan move for the former Real Betis man. However, with him entering the last year of his contract, Villa could look to try and offload him on a permanent basis to help contribute towards their push to comply with the league’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
