Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on Jack Grealish’s situation at Man City in case they are given encouragement over the deal.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Newcastle are among the clubs interested in the 29-year-old.

However, the Magpies will pursue other priority targets before making a move for the England international which could see them miss out as rival interest builds.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Grealish favours a move to Everton this summer as he would be promised a regular starting place.

While he is keen to play Champions League football, which Newcastle can offer, the midfielder wants to play regularly ahead of the World Cup next year.

Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Grealish’s Man City career is over, as the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen are also in the race.

Newcastle race Everton to sign Jack Grealish

Brown told Football Insider that Everton will do everything to sign Grealish this summer as David Moyes “would love” to sign him if only on loan.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that Newcastle are also keeping a close eye on his situation with a move in mind.

“Newcastle are still keeping a close eye on Jack Grealish,” he told Football Insider.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Everton, but I think they’re still very much in the mix.

“Of course, they’re not the only club interested because everybody knows about Jack’s qualities and what he can bring to the side when he’s at his best.

“The thing is for Newcastle, they have a lot of areas of the team where they want to improve.

“I don’t think Grealish is at the top of their list of priorities, but that’s a risk because somebody else might jump in quickly and get it done.

“If the opportunity comes up they’re going to be one of the clubs in for him.

“For now, they’ll look elsewhere but from what I hear they’re keeping a close eye on the situation.

“His main aim is playing regular football, he’d like to play in the Champions League but if he’s not going to be starting I expect him to look elswhere.

“It’s an interesting one to watch, that’s for sure.”

Harvey Barnes could quit amid Anthony Elanga pursuit

Alongside their ambitions to sign Grealish, Newcastle are assessing other options to strengthen out wide, with Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga on their radar.

Brown told Football Insider on 22 June that Newcastle are prepared to sell Harvey Barnes if they sign Elanga as he is keen to play regular first-team football.

Bryan Mbeumo had initially been the Magpies top target for the right wing position, but their attentions have now turned towards Elanga.

Football Insider revealed on 15 June that Nottingham Forest will accept £50million for Elanga after turning down an offer of £35million from Newcastle last summer.
