Tre Johnson final collegiate bio
Texas' NBA Draft History
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The 2025 NBA Draft will be conducted on Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26 at Barclays Center. The first round will begin on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Central with television coverage provided by ABC and ESPN. The second round is scheduled to start on Thursday at 7 p.m. Central with television coverage provided by ESPN.
Former Longhorn Tre Johnson is draft eligible and expected to be a lottery pick by most mock drafts.
Since the NBA Draft lottery started in 1985, UT has produced nine lottery picks (a draft selection whose position is determined through the lottery). Those nine selections include LaMarcus Aldridge (No. 2 pick in 2006), Kevin Durant (No. 2 pick in 2007), Tristan Thompson (No. 4 pick in 2011), Mohamed Bamba (No. 6 pick in 2018), Chris Mihm (No. 7 pick in 2000), T.J. Ford (No. 8 pick in 2003), Jaxson Hayes (No. 8 pick in 2019), D.J. Augustin (No. 9 pick in 2008) and Myles Turner (No. 11 pick in 2015). Since 2004, a lottery pick has included the top 14 selections in the draft.
Since the NBA Draft began in 1947, a total of 48 Longhorns have heard their names called on draft night. Texas has produced a total of 19 first-round selections and 13 second-round picks in program history. UT has had 18 players drafted in the last 19 NBA Drafts, dating back to the 2006 Draft.
Tre Johnson played and started 33 of Texas' 35 games during the 2024-25 season and led the SEC in scoring (19.9 ppg) while converting 42.7-percent (224-525) from the floor, including a 39.7-percent mark (89-224) from three-point range, and 87.1-percent (121-139) from the free throw line. He also led the team in minutes (34.7 mpg) and ranked second in assists (90, 2.7 apg) and tied for second in steals (31). Johnson reached double figures in scoring in 31 of his 33 games played, topped the 20-point mark 15 times and eclipsed the 30-point mark three times.
Johnson became just the sixth freshman to lead the SEC in scoring, dating back to the 1932-33 season, joining Jim Nolan (Georgia Tech, 1946), Bernard King (Tennessee, 1975), Chris Jackson (LSU, 1989), Cameron Thomas (LSU, 2021) and Brandon Miller (Alabama, 2023). His 19.9 ppg marked the highest scoring average by a Texas player since J'Covan Brown (20.1 ppg) led the Big 12 in scoring in 2011-12.
Johnson was named the SEC Freshman of the Year and claimed spots on the All-SEC Second Team and five-person All-SEC Freshman Team by the league's coaches. In voting by media covering the league, he was tabbed the SEC Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the five-person All-SEC First Team. One of five finalists for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, Johnson was a five-time selection as SEC Freshman of the Week during the season (Nov. 11, Jan. 27, Feb. 3, Feb. 17 and Mar. 3). He also earned a spot on the NABC All-Gulf District First Team.
Johnson posted a career-high 39 points (career-best 14-28 FG, career-high 7-11 threes, 4-4 FT) in 38 minutes in an overtime loss at Arkansas (Feb. 26). He set the UT freshman single-game record (39 points), topping the previous mark of 37 set four times by Kevin Durant in 2006-07 and once by Terrence Rencher in 1991-92. Johnson tied the UT freshman single-game mark for most 3-pointers made (7-11), equaling the record set by DeJuan "Chico" Vazquez (7-8) vs. SMU on Jan. 20, 1996. Johnson also set the UT program record for most points in a freshman debut, as he tallied 29 points (10-20 FG, 5-10 threes, 4-5 FT) in 39 minutes against Ohio State (Nov. 4) in Las Vegas.
