Manchester United are poised to sign a new striker during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils were keen on landing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town earlier this summer, but the Englishman chose to join Chelsea instead.
United are likely to pursue an alternative. Gazzetta dello Sport claim that they have reappeared strongly in the ‘last few hours’ to sign Moise Kean.
The Red Devils are in the picture ‘more than ever’ for the Fiorentina star, whose £45 million release clause will be active between July 1 and July 15.
Kean’s past Premier League record is a red flag
The Italian signed for Fiorentina from Juventus last summer. He had an excellent debut season, scoring 25 goals and providing three assists from 44 appearances.
La Viola are anticipating clubs to meet his reported release clause. United are one of those named, but we believe the speculation could be agent-driven instead.
Kean previously had a forgettable Premier League stint with Everton. He managed just two goals from 32 league outings and struggled to adapt to the higher intensity and physicality of English football.
He has finally found his feet at La Viola after another spell with Juventus, but we don’t anticipate United making an offer, considering his previous woes in English football.
Kean has improved his aerial game, but he continues to squander big scoring opportunities.
He missed a staggering 34 big chances in all competitions last term. Additionally, he averaged only seven passes and lost possession on nearly 10 occasions per game.
Manager Ruben Amorim may want someone better with the ball at his feet. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike seems a good fit, although the club may not afford him.
United are unlikely to make a huge outlay of £85m on the 22-year-old. Viktor Gyokeres seems to be Amorim’s dream acquisition, but the £68m-rated star is leaning towards a move to Arsenal.
A move could still be on if the Gunners were to sign RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko or anyone else. This could pave the way for a possible reunion between Amorim and the Sporting CP striker.
