Florian Wirtz is buzzing to kick things off at Liverpool alongside Jeremie Frimpong following their transfers from Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Frimpong sealed the deal as a Reds player earlier in the month after his £29m release clause was met back in May.

The Dutch international is set to spice up the Premier League champions' lineup next term with his blistering pace and adaptability, giving a boost especially on the right flank.

Wirtz himself hopped aboard officially this Friday post a record-smashing £116m arrangement with Leverkusen concluding several weeks of dogged talks led by sporting director Richard Hughes and Leverkusen's Simon Rolfes.

The Reds' fresh recruits aren't just teammates but mates off-field too, getting snapped while on hols last week before Wirtz zipped over for his medical in Liverpool with the fam.

The German hotshot spilled the beans on his excitement about launching his Anfield journey with his good pal, the multi-talented Dutchman, reports the Liverpool Echo.

"I played, I think, three or four years with him," Wirtz said in an interview with Liverpoolfc.com.

"He's a really good player, a really good person, a really funny guy. Good for every changing room and also on the pitch, big qualities to attack and to defend.

"He was then the first one who signed with Liverpool and of course he wanted me to join as well. But I think I made my decision by my own, but it was maybe a small part that convinced me in the end as well.

"Yeah, for sure [it's exciting]. I think it's a really nice thing that we can play together again at a new club, at maybe a bigger club, and make the move together. I'm really looking forward to standing on the pitch with him again.

"He was my neighbour in the changing room, he sat directly next to me and I had to speak English with him. After I finished my school, I didn't speak really good English but he was teaching me a lot and making me speak in more English and better English."

Wirtz added: "I'm really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League.

"I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best. I spoke also with some players who played there and they told me that it's perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I'm really looking forward to playing my first game."

Both Wirtz and Frimpong are set to kick off pre-season training on 7 July and are tipped to make their unofficial bows six days later in a friendly against Preston North End.
