OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (KWTX) - University High School graduate, Kenrich Williams, became the first NBA player from Waco to win an NBA Championship after the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers, 103-91 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday.
In his seventh year in the league, the 30-year-old NBA veteran was a key contributor to the 68-win team during the regular season, averaging 6.3 points per game in just 16 minutes per game.
Williams graduated from University in 2013 before beginning his college career at New Mexico Junior College. The 6’7 small forward and shooting guard then transferred to TCU, where he was an All-Big 12 selection. In 2018, the New Orleans Pelicans signed Williams as an undrafted free agent.
After two seasons in New Orleans, Williams was traded to the Thunder in 2020 and became a reliable role player for the team. He later signed a four-year extension in 2022.
In the last two seasons, the Thunder have won 125 of their 164 regular season games, tied for the best mark in the NBA.
The Finals win marks the franchise’s first NBA Championship since moving to Oklahoma City in 2008.
