Report: Newcastle United scouting mission revealed as Paul Mitchell enters last week with the…

A new scouting mission from Newcastle United’s recruitment team, including Paul Mitchell and Steve Nickson has been shared just days before the former leaves the club.

Now in its second week, the transfer window is in full swing, but it appears to be all quiet on Tyneside despite the promise of a busy summer.

Newcastle United fans should not fear, however, as there is still over two months left in the summer transfer window, and Eddie Howe’s recruitment team are working tirelessly to bring the players he needs.

It has been reported that Newcastle are in talks for Joao Pedro. The attacker is likely to partner with Alexander Isak next season if he completes the signing, believed to be in the region of £60m.

Additionally, Anthony Elanga sent Newcastle fans into meltdown when he posted a picture with the black and white stripes visible. He has also been discussed as a target, but valuations between the Magpies and Nottingham Forest do not currently align.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell is leaving Newcastle at the end of June, but a brand new scouting mission has been revealed.

Newcastle United’s recruitment team attended a recent England international

After less than a year at the club, Mitchell is moving on to other things. The 43-year-old has not made a single signing for the starting XI, but still has time to do so before he leaves.

It was confirmed that Howe is calm about Newcastle’s transfer window, despite the slow start. He will be pleased to know that Mitchell and Steve Nickson have ventured away from the North East to scout while top players were out on international duty.

According to the Chronicle, Mitchell and Nickson were spotted at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground for England’s friendly against Senegal. The Three Lions were well beaten in that game, but the pair are sure to have had their eyes on several players.

James Trafford was in the England squad, although he did not play in the game. The pair could have also been keeping tabs on the likes of Eberechi Eze, who has been linked with a move to Tyneside in the last few months, and Trevoh Chalobah, as Newcastle are in desperate need of a right-sided centre-back.

Unfortunately, Mitchell and Nickson may have seen the worst of the players they were there for, as England barely put up a fight before losing 3-1 to a lively Senegal side.

What Paul Mitchell is doing at Newcastle United before his departure

This last week will be a huge one for Newcastle, who will be eager to get the most out of Mitchell before he leaves for good. Reports suggested that Mitchell had already left his post, but it has since been confirmed that he is honouring his contract and leaving at the end of June.

In the meantime, the same Chronicle report has shared insights into what Mitchell is doing behind the scenes ahead of his departure.

The Stalybridge-born chief is putting together a handover ahead of his exit, likely for Andy Howe, Nickson, or his eventual replacement.

It has also been shared that Mitchell is leaving on good terms with the club, despite reports of turmoil between him and Howe. The report adds that Mitchell has a good working relationship with Newcastle’s owner, having been appointed on the recommendation of CEO Darren Eales.
