Erik ten Hag's six-word warning for Man Utd ace is coming back to haunt Ruben Amorim's player again after latest'drama'– opinion

Erik ten Hag could not have been clearer with his message to one of Ruben Amorim’s first-team Manchester United players during his reign at Old Trafford.

The 55-year-old Dutchman is set to make his hotly anticipated return to management next month, with Erik ten Hag appointed Bayer Leverkusen boss.

Ten Hag was sacked as United manager during the 2024-25 Premier League campaign and the former Ajax boss had been out of the dugout since 2024.

The United manager’s return to football management was confirmed in May after Xabi Alonso left Bayer Leverkusen to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

Ten Hag inked a two-year contract with Leverkusen and will take charge at the club from 1st July, following on from the German side’s failed title defence last season.

Bayer Leverkusen lifted the Bundesliga trophy under Xabi Alonso in the 2023-24 campaign, but Bayern Munich dethroned the side in the 2024-25 season.

Ten Hag was a big fan of Garnacho and the ex-United and Ajax manager played a key part in the development of the 20-year-old Spain-born attacker at Old Trafford.

Garnacho has been a fan favourite among United fans since his emergence in the first team, but the Red Devils talent hasn’t been able to avoid controversy.

Despite his incredible ability at times and long-term potential as a player, Garnacho’s off-field activities have continued to haunt his playing spell at Old Trafford.

Garnacho’s relationship with Ruben Amorim was already put under strain towards the end of the 2024-25 Premier League season and his future remains uncertain.

The United winger found himself in the firing line under Ten Hag as well after he liked social media posts being critical of his substitution against Bournemouth.

Garnacho was pulled off at half-time by Ten Hag during United’s 2-2 Premier League comeback draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in April 2024.

The United star unliked the posts and Ten Hag tried to move on from the incident, but the former Red Devils boss admitted that the player has to “learn a lot.”

“Alejandro is a young player, he has to learn a lot,” Ten Hag said in 2024, as per BBC Sport.

“He apologised for it and after that we move on.”

Alejandro Garnacho’s latest actions show Erik ten Hag was right about Man Utd winger needing to learn a lot

United player Alejandro Garnacho has found himself once again in the firing line after his latest social media activity sparked backlash from Red Devils supporters.

Garnacho shared a photo of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt on holiday, which featured the name of Marcus Rashford and the number nine on the back.

Marcus Rashford made the move to Aston Villa during the January transfer window after United agreed to loan the England international out for six months.

According to BBC Sport, Garnacho’s post about United teammate Rashford on Instagram was ‘merely a supportive one’ about the Aston Villa player.

However, the Argentina international has once again been reminded by Ten Hag’s comments over his need to learn a lot from his past decisions on social media.

Garnacho has been linked with Napoli in recent months and the United winger’s future remains in doubt after his comments around Amorim back in May.
