'People always talk about Barcelona': Scott Brown reveals underrated Celtic career 'highlight'

Celtic fans have witnessed their team take a number of scalps from some of Europe’s top teams.

In the Champions League, huge nights at Parkhead saw Celtic beat the likes of Manchester United, AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona.

In the Europa League (or UEFA Cup) Celtic taught Liverpool and Blackburn a lesson as well as recording their biggest-ever win in the tournament against FK Suduva winning 8-1 at Celtic Park.

Whilst all of these were great nights in the club’s history, Celtic hero Scott Brown has shared one of his career highlights that was equal to the Bhoys beating Barcelona in 2012 and it didn’t even happen in Glasgow.

Scott Brown’s Celtic career ‘highlight’ that is ‘up there’ with Barcelona

Brown faced Barcelona six times during his Celtic career but missed the famous 2-1 win at Parkhead over the Catalan giants in 2012 due to injury.

But here, the Celtic legend has listed another European result that appears to be underrated as one of his career ‘highlights’ at the Parkhead club.

Brown told The Scottish Football Podcast, “Yeah, it’s one of the highlights of my career. There’s no question, you know, people always talk about Barcelona, but I felt, you know, I wouldn’t say Lazio was equal to that, but it’s certainly up there with one of the results of my career as a player or a manager.

“So they had top quality players and they were a team that were really pushing that season. So for us to go there and win as well was exceptional.

“For the first time in Celtic’s history to go away and to win on Italian soil was great for us as well.”

Celtic came from behind that night after Ciro Immobile put Lazio ahead on the 7th minute. However, James Forrest equalised just before half-time as Olivier Ntcham scored in the dying seconds to record a famous win in Rome.

The only two goals Scott Brown scored for Celtic in Europe fans may have forgotten about

Scott Brown wasn’t really known for his goalscoring prowess during his time at Celtic having scored 68 in 785 games but he did come up with some important ones over his Parkhead spell.

However, in Europe, the former Celtic captain found the back of the net on just two occasions and one almost earned the Hoops a famous away win in the Europa League.

18.9.2014: RB Salzburg 2 v 2 Celtic. Brown put Celtic 2-1 up on the 68th minute before the money-bags Austrian side equalised with just 13 minutes to go in the Europa League group phase.

17.08.2016: Celtic 5 v 2 Hapoel Beer Sheva. Brown scored the fifth goal as the Hoops routed the Israeli side in the Champions League qualifier.

Brown is now the manager of Ayr United where he hopes to lead them into the Scottish Premiership next season.
