The Premier League has written to Chelsea to clarify the club’s position on ticket resales amid Todd Boehly’s ownership of the controversial third-party ticket reselling website Vivid Seats.
Boehly is a part-owner of the BlueCo consortium which owns Chelsea and is also a director of Vivid Seats, which is an American website.
Chelsea supporters expressed their concern over Boehly’s ownership of Vivid Seats in a statement in March, calling on the Premier League to take action against Boehly.
Vivid Seats sells tickets at inflated prices much higher than their original price. Tickets for Chelsea’s home Premier League match against Liverpool on May 4 were listed on the site for up to £20,000 each.
The Premier League’s chief executive, Richard Masters, has now confirmed that the league have contacted Chelsea in light of the controversy. Masters revealed that he had written the letter when speaking at a meeting with the Football Supporters’ Association.
The Premier League lists Vivid Seats as an “unauthorised ticket website”. It is aimed at fans of sporting and music events around the world but cannot be used by British fans, because it is illegal in the UK to resell event tickets in this way.

The Premier League warns fans to “exercise extreme caution” when using Vivid Seats.
The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust has said it has given Boehly “multiple opportunities” to respond to fans’ concerns about his involvement with Vivid Seats but has not heard back.
Chelsea have been approached for comment. The Premier League declined to comment.
