Lazio signed Nuno Tavares from Arsenal permanently this summer after a loan from the Gunners. The two clubs had agreed a clause which allowed the Italian side to buy the 25-year-old for €5m.
The Portuguese defender can now quickly depart the Italian side, as they look to make a quick profit, and West Ham’s Emerson Palmieri is seen as a potential replacement.
Palmieri has previously played under Maurizio Sarri during his time at Chelsea and they could reunite in Rome.
Gazzetta dello Sport report that with Lazio looking for a replacement for Tavares, the West Ham full-back is seen as a key option. The Italian giants are attracted by his contract situation at the London Stadium, with the 30-year-old’s deal running out in 2026.
As a result, Lazio feel that they can sign Emerson from West Ham for less than €10m.
The idea of playing under Sarri again may be tempting for the Italy international, who won the Europa League under the coach at Chelsea. Emerson’s familiarity with the manager’s tactics is seen as an important aspect of a potential transfer.
Fiorentina’s Fabiano Parisi and Crystal Palace’s Ben Chilwell also interest Lazio, but Emerson is at the top of the Biancocelesti’s shortlist, with the left-back having also previously played for AS Roma.
