Newcastle United haven't enjoyed the best start to the summer transfer window, having seen several targets opt to go elsewhere already.
There was a growing confidence that a deal could be done for the Magpies to finally sign young Brazilian forward João Pedro, but then that dreaded C word appeared.
Chelsea simply can't let another Premier League side have a clear run at any transfer target without joining in the race and derailing the whole thing.
Following on from Igor Julio talking about João Pedro's preference to play in London, Newcastle's hopes took a dip when Chelsea reared their heads.

Chelsea have reportedly turned their attention towards Randal Kolo Muani
Chelsea are in talks over a deal for Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain
Newcastle have been handed a glimmer of hope, however, as French outlet L'Equipe are now reporting that Chelsea are in talks over a move for Randal Kolo Muani.
The PSG forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus and is said to be surplus to requirements in the French capital.
Newcastle have been linked with Kolo Muani as Paris Saint-Germain made it clear he'd be moved on, but there has been no indication of a genuine interest from the Magpies.

João Pedro ticks a lot of boxes for Eddie Howe
If the rumours of Chelsea and Kolo Muani are true and they are successful with their bid, that should leave Newcastle with a pretty clear run at João Pedro.
Newcastle need to add a forward to their ranks this summer, and João Pedro ticks a lot of boxes for Eddie Howe thanks to his versatility.
Some fans have concerns about his attitude, but we're confident that Howe can handle that and that João Pedro can go on to be a huge player at Newcastle if he were to sign.
