Brenden Aaronson continued his impressive form away from Leeds United on Sunday.

The 24-year-old had scored his first goal for the United States since 2023 in the 5-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on 15 June.

The American starred again as Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured a 100 per cent record from their Gold Cup group against Haiti, winning 2-1 (22 June).

It is a stark contrast to the inconsistent form that he displayed for the Elland Road outfit as they secured promotion from the Championship.

Aaronson earns rave reviews for display away from Leeds

Leeds midfielder Aaronson was slammed for his display against Switzerland in a friendly before the tournament, but has bounced back when it mattered.

The Whites star notched an assist for Malik Tillman’s opener just 10 minutes into the contest and was replaced in the 70th minute.

USA Today gave him a rating of 6/10, saying: “We saw some flashes of Aaronson at his best, as the winger drove at defenders and put pressure on the back line. Also delivered a great clipped assist to the back post for Tillman to head home.”

NBC Sports gave Aaronson a rating of 7/10, saying: “Did the things you usually like from him while limiting the tornado-like moments that seem to send him out of control. Still just 24, he looks like a more mature product.”

GOAL handed the Peacocks’ star a rating of 8/10, saying: “Initially misplayed the ball, he more than made up for it with his cross for Tillman. Generally provided danger out wide, which has been lacking a bit in recent games.”

Leeds still have Aaronson dilemma

Aaronson’s performances on the international stage may have come too late to change Daniel Farke‘s mind about his future.

The Whites are looking at options in the transfer market, with moves for the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emi Buendia mooted for the LS11 outfit.

His campaign was underwhelming last season as he put up nine goals and two assists in 46 appearances, with many feeling like those numbers should have been better in such a dominant team.

His stats in his last and only season in the Premier League of one goal and three assists, do not inspire much confidence that he can provide in the survival battle.

Whether he is willing to settle for a reduced role remains to be seen, but it seems like the most realistic option right now, given that the Yorkshire side needs their number 10 to contribute regularly.

His latest display for the national team may have been impressive, but Farke should look at his numbers across the promotion season, which simply will not be good enough at the elite level.
