Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw has confirmed he is interested in re-signing Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore in this summer's transfer window.
Gore joined the League One side on loan back in January for the second half of the 2024/25, but his temporary stint in South Yorkshire was ravaged by a foot injury, restricting him to just three appearances.
The youngster, who is out of contract at Old Trafford next summer, reported a problem with his foot on the morning of a clash with Shrewsbury Town in early-February, prompting former Millers boss Steve Evans to question how he had sustained the injury.
However, Gore did not play again until the penultimate weekend of the season. He returned to Carrington for treatment and a rehabilitation programme, during which time Evans was sacked and replaced by Hamshaw.
With the 20-year-old facing an uncertain future in M16 ahead of the forthcoming campaign, Millers chief Hamshaw has admitted he would like to bring him back to the New York Stadium for a second spell, but accepts there will be interest from elsewhere.
"I know there is competition for him because he is highly rated at Manchester United and has been in and around their first team," Hamshaw told the Rotherham Advertiser. "I also know that their manager likes him.
"I'm well aware there will probably be other interest. There is a foreign market open now to Manchester United and English players and we will probably have a bit of competition but if we could get him it would be amazing.
"Any deal has to be right for the club. We won't go out of our means to do something but at the same time if I can get him then I know the chairman will back me on that one.
"I'm a big admirer of Dan. If I can get mhim, great. If I can't then I can't."
Gore, who made his competitive debut for United against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in September 2023, is highly-rated by the Reds and the club acknowledges he has experienced some desperately bad luck on the injury front in the last 18 months.
His loan spell at Port Vale in the second half of the 2023/24 season saw him get injured on his debut and he did not play for the club again.
