Paul Pogba appears to be closing in on a return to football
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba previously admitted he was cautious about taking the next step in his career as he closes in on a move to AS Monaco.
Speculation over Pogba’s future appears to be finally coming to an end, with reports suggesting he has agreed to join Monaco as a free agent. According to [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1936849754761363781?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 22, 2025 ), he is set to sign a two-year deal to return to his homeland.
After serving an 18-month doping ban for testing positive for the banned substance DHEA, Pogba became eligible to return to professional football in March.
The French midfielder previously admitted he was not short of offers but insisted he wanted to make the right decision for his career as he explained his decision not to make an immediate return following the end of his ban.
"First of all, I can't wait to play," Pogba told GQ in April. "You know, it's been so long since I played football. "I never imagined I'd be free at this time of the season. I've never really experienced a transfer like this.
"Today, there are offers. Coming from all over. From all over.
"I want to see what suits me best. Because I am in a crucial period of my life and career. It’s a decision I’m going to take the time to consider."
Over the weekend Pogba posted an image on Instagram alongside United stars Leny Yoro and Kobbie Mainoo. The trio were captured right next to a running track, having completed a difficult-looking training session in the heat.
The United hero's last professional appearance came for Juventus against Empoli in August 2023. If a move to Monaco goes through, he could return to action in the coming weeks.
