INDIANAPOLIS – Don’t look now, but we are a little more than 2 months away from the Colts needing to trim their 90-man roster down to 53.

The Colts will report to training camp on July 22nd and those roster cuts will come on August 26th.

Let’s take a post-spring look at a projected 53-man roster.

1. Quarterbacks (4/3): Jason Bean, Daniel Jones, Riley Leonard*, Anthony Richardson

Quarterbacks (4/3): Jason Bean, Daniel Jones, Riley Leonard*, Anthony Richardson

Bowen’s Analysis: Will the Colts add a veteran quarterback once camp rolls around? Is Leonard worth a spot on the 53-man roster? This number could very well be 2, and that’s not even factoring in the potential health question around Anthony Richardson.

2. Running Backs (6/4) Salvon Ahmed, Ulysses Bentley*, DJ Giddens*, Tyler Goodson, Khalil Herbert, Jonathan Taylor

Running Backs (6/4) Salvon Ahmed, Ulysses Bentley*, DJ Giddens*, Tyler Goodson, Khalil Herbert, Jonathan Taylor

Bowen’s Analysis : Keeping a 4th rounding back without a role as a return man seems like a luxury. But, for now, I’ll keep Goodson on the 5-3man roster.

3. Wide Receivers (13/6) Ajou Ajou, Josh Downs, Ashton Dulin, Anthony Gould, Tyler Kahmann*, Adonai Mitchell, D.J. Montgomery, Coleman Owen*, Landon Parker*, Alec Pierce, Michael Pittman Jr., Blayne Taylor*, Laquon Treadwell

Bowen’s Analysis : This seems pretty straightforward to me. Gould appears to be the lead guy for punt return duties. And we know what the staff thinks of Dulin as a core special teamer.

4. Tight Ends (7/4): Mo Alie-Cox, Will Mallory, Sean McKeon, Drew Ogletree, Albert Okwuegbunam, Tyler Warren*, Jelani Woods

Tight Ends (7/4): Mo Alie-Cox, Will Mallory, Sean McKeon, Drew Ogletree, Albert Okwuegbunam, Tyler Warren*, Jelani Woods

Bowen’s Analysis : I can’t see keeping 5 tight ends, so a notable name will be cut from here. For me, Jelani Woods have to prove a lot to push 1 of these 4 off the roster.

5. Offensive Line (15/9): Tanor Bortolini, Marshall Foerner*, Blake Freeland, Wesley French, Matt Goncalves, Quenton Nelson, Danny Pinter, Bernard Raimann, Josh Sills, Braden Smith, Luke Tenuta, Jalen Travis*, Dalton Tucker, Mose Vavao, Jack Wilson

Offensive Line (15/9): Tanor Bortolini, Marshall Foerner*, Blake Freeland, Wesley French, Matt Goncalves, Quenton Nelson, Danny Pinter, Bernard Raimann, Josh Sills, Braden Smith, Luke Tenuta, Jalen Travis*, Dalton Tucker, Mose Vavao, Jack Wilson

Bowen’s Analysis : Yes, I hear you Chris Ballard. I’m probably a number short at each of the trench positions. It is just hard to get to 10, and pinch elsewhere. If I got to 10, Dalton Tucker (7 starts in 2024) and Wesley French would be the names I would have looked at.

6. Defensive Line (16/9): Adetomiwa Adebawore, DeForest Buckner, Devonta Davis*, Samson Ebukam, Neville Gallimore, Eric Johnson II, Isaiah Land, Laiatu Latu, Tyquan Lewis, Desmond Little*, Durell Nchami, Kwity Paye, Tim Smith*, Grover Stewart, JT Tuimoloau*

Defensive Line (16/9): Adetomiwa Adebawore, DeForest Buckner, Devonta Davis*, Samson Ebukam, Neville Gallimore, Eric Johnson II, Isaiah Land, Laiatu Latu, Tyquan Lewis, Desmond Little*, Durell Nchami, Kwity Paye, Tim Smith*, Grover Stewart, JT Tuimoloau*

Bowen’s Analysis : Again, I’m a number short here. If you want to keep an extra edge, Land is your guy. Smith was a 6th round pick in this year’s draft class and the Colts don’t have definite defensive tackle depth answers.

7. Linebackers (9/5): Austin Ajake, Liam Anderson, Jon Bachie, Jaylon Carlies, Solomon DeShields*, Zaire Franklin, Cameron McGrone, Segun Olubi, Jacob Phillips

Linebackers (9/5): Austin Ajake, Liam Anderson, Jon Bachie, Jaylon Carlies, Solomon DeShields*, Zaire Franklin, Cameron McGrone, Segun Olubi, Jacob Phillips

Bowen’s Analysis : Unlike past years, I’m more torn on what they’ll do at linebacker. Carlies and Franklin are the starters and are expected back from off-season surgeries in camp. But how many they keep, and who rounds out the group, is anyone’s guess. Bachie, a Lou Anarumo fan, and McGrone, an Indy native, both got some super valuable starting run this spring.

8. Cornerbacks (10/6): Corey Ballentine, JuJu Brents, Johnathan Edwards*, Alex Johnson, Jaylon Jones, David Long Jr., Kenny Moore II, Justin Walley, Charvarius Ward, Samuel Womack III

Cornerbacks (10/6): Corey Ballentine, JuJu Brents, Johnathan Edwards*, Alex Johnson, Jaylon Jones, David Long Jr., Kenny Moore II, Justin Walley, Charvarius Ward, Samuel Womack III

Bowen’s Analysis : Perhaps 6 is too much, but I think the Colts like their cornerback group. Health at cornerback and depth is never something you can take for granted, so I like keeping 6 here.

9. Safeties (6/4): Cam Bynum, Nick Cross, Daniel Scott, Rodney Thomas II, Trey Washington*, Hunter Wohler*

Safeties (6/4): Cam Bynum, Nick Cross, Daniel Scott, Rodney Thomas II, Trey Washington*, Hunter Wohler*

Bowen’s Analysis : By no means should Scott or Thomas II have locked-in spots, especially after Scott dealt with more injuries this spring. Safety depth is anyone’s guess, and Wohler (the 7th round pick) could easily factor in, too.

10. Specialists (4/3): LS-Luke Rhodes, P-Rigoberto Sanchez, K-Spencer Shrader, Maddux Trujillo*

Specialists (4/3): LS-Luke Rhodes, P-Rigoberto Sanchez, K-Spencer Shrader, Maddux Trujillo*

Bowen’s Analysis : I’ll go with Shrader winning the kicking competition over Trujillo to round out a new special team trio.
